Rarely, if ever, will you come across a gamer who hasn’t heard of the game series called “COD Modern Warfare”. After all, it’s been around since 2007.

Its latest installment, Modern Warfare 2019, as the name suggests, was released in 2019. It has earned more than $1 billion in revenue. In comparison, Modern Warfare 3 has had sales upwards of $30 million.

The franchise had come a long way since 2011 when Modern Warfare 3 was released. Apart from the prominent developments in the graphics, the storyline is unique, with some brand-new characters. Some old veterans returning to the screens like Captain Price, that’s one of the most notable features.

So, in this article, we will be checking out the main differences in the campaign between Modern Warfare 3 and Modern Warfare 2019.

1. Asymmetric Counter-Insurgent Warfare:

COD Modern Warfare was known in the original trilogy for its regular-styled warfare. Whether you were fighting in the streets of Berlin or the markets of Paris, it was always warring with some rules.

But that isn’t the case anymore. In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019, war isn’t always fought on the battlefield. Poisonous gas is used by all sides, civilians are killed mercilessly, and people are abducted to be used as “bargaining chips”. In multiple instances, not even children are spared from the bullet.

2. There Is No Soap:

To be fair, there’s some mention of him after the last mission’s cutscenes. But that’s about it. This is probably the most significant difference between the two. Captain John “Soap” MacTavish, having callsign Hotel 0–6 in the British SAS. He’s from Scotland and is a massive fan favorite who simply isn’t shown in the universe of Modern Warfare 2019.

We get to see him for the last time in Modern Warfare 3, in Prague. Here he falls off a church tower and is later rushed to a store, losing a tremendous amount of blood in the process. We later see him die on a table as Captain Price tries, unsuccessfully, to save him.

3. Captain Price Has a New Look:

Bill Murray, who played Price in the original three games (Modern Warfare 3 included), is unfortunately too old now to act as Price again. So, Activision got in touch with Barry Sloane. Sloane lived up to the hype, and some of the new dialogues of Captain Price are pretty memorable, like:

“We get dirty, so the world stays clean, that’s the mission.”

-Price to Sgt Kyle Garrick while driving in Moldova.

4. The CIA Are Here!

Be it Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (the greatest hit in the original trilogy) or Modern Warfare 3, the intelligence you used to get was from callsign Overlord (who is assumed to be a general). Though, in COD Modern Warfare 2019, that no longer seems to be the case.

Meet Station Chief Kate Laswell! She usually goes by the callsign Watcher-1 and has a dedication to keeping the world free of terrorism. She’s a bit hard to manage (as you’d expect a CIA handler to be) but does give clearance to Price and Company when they need it. She has one operative under her direct command, Alex.

Alex, callsign Echo 3–1, is a character you can play as in multiple missions. He’s quite an excellent marksman, evidenced by him wielding a sniper rifle in the last mission’s cutscene.

Summing it All Up:

There’s quite a lot going on in both the 2019 and the original universes of COD Modern Warfare. Awesome characters, brilliant graphics and gameplay that are just out of this world. These are just some of the great features that you’ll see here!
